How do I become a licensed skydiver ?
Have you ever dreamed of skydiving or even becoming a skydiver ? What do you need to do and what would be the logical steps toward realising your dream ?
In order to get a good idea of what it is like to skydive you should first do a “tandem jump” … this means you are tied to an instructor (see picture below) and all the responsibilities of the jump are with him/her and you just have to enjoy the experience.

If you really loved your tandem jump and are ready to take it to the next level you should do the AFF course to become a licensed skydiver. AFF stands for Accelerated FreeFall and during this standard course governed by the USPA (United States Parachute Association). You learn the basic theory and also get to do your first jumps with your intructors holding on to you during freefall ( instead of being tied onto you during a tandem jump). You already need to deploy yourself, and also fly the canopy and land by yourself (with radio guided instructions). During each jump you need to show certain skills that prove you can control your body during freefall.
During the AFF course you need to pass 8 different levels (jumps) all done with instructors next to you during the freefall. If you don’t manage to fulfil the requirements of the jump you need to repeat the jump before advancing to the next level. You have to clearly demonstrate you are in total control during freefall and have the ability to get into a stable body position before deploying your parachute.
After these jumps you are ready to jump solo and your adrenaline charged skydiving career can begin with your USPA license.
